FOUR PERSONS died and two others, including a woman, were injured in a powerful explosion in a jeep loaded with explosives in village Karrapur under the Baheriya police post on Sunday morning.

The bodies of the victims were torn into pieces in the explosion, SP Shahid Absar said. He said that the blast occurred when some labourers were loading the explosives in the jeep.

He said ammonium nitrate was stored in a small hut on the main road illegally. Dulichand Patel, who holds the explosive licence, is absconding.

With the help of the local people, the police collected the scattered body parts of the victims who have not been identified till the evening, he said.

The woman has been admitted to the district hospital with 75 percent burns and the other person with severe head injuries.

According to sources, ammonium nitrate sale is high in the summer season in the area where many legal and illegal black stone mines exist.
