DMAT might be postponed

THE DENTAL and Medical Admission Test (DMAT) - 2007 might be deferred by ten days as the admission test is clashing with other entrance exams.

The Association of Private Dental and Medical Colleges of MO (APDMC) has asked for a deferment of exam till May 31. The association has petitioned to the Judge’s Committee on monitoring of admissions to obtain an extension on the date and the hearing is scheduled for May 14, when a final decision on the deferment would be pronounced.

The DMAT 2007 is scheduled for May 20, just a day after the MP Pre-Medical Test (PMT) concludes. APDMC officials said that this would make it difficult for the students appearing at the district levels for PMT to appear for the DMAT at the divisional level centers.

Similarly, about 700 candidates are to appear for the DMAT at the New Delhi centre and the Delhi PMT is clashing with the DMAT. The APDMC has petitioned the Judge’s Committee on these two points and is expecting as favourable decision.

Chairman of the Judge’s Committee on monitoring of admission Justice Chandresh Bhushan confirmed to Hindustan Times that the association has proposed a deferment and that the matter would be decided in a hearing on May 14.

APDMC officials also said that the date of May 31 is being asked as it is a working day and there are no chances of any clashes with any other admission tests that are mostly held on weekends.

The officials said that once deferment is obtained, an advertisement would be issued to inform the students and fresh admit cards would be issued. Meanwhile, the association is in readiness to send out admit cards to students if the deferment is not obtained. About 6000 students have applied for the entrance test to private medical and dental colleges in state.
