| | THREE GOONS arrested by the Maksi police managed to break open their cell and escape on Sunday night before a police party from Rajendra Nagar police station could take their transit remand. The goons were recently involved in vehicle lifting, attempted kidnapping in the city and had fled towards Shajapur after the Indore police gave them chase. They had subsequently been put in custody from where the jailbirds managed to escape. The Maksi police had arrested Pappu alias Salim Shah of Badnagar, Sadiq Shah alias Badshah of Khajrana and Umrao Singh Sondhia of Agar, Shajapur on May 2, while they were making their getaway in a stolen Alto car. Contraband items and sharp edged weapons were recovered from their possession, in a special checking campaign, launched to nab them, after Indore police had issued an alert in this regard. The accused had stolen the vehicle some time back from a local bank official Shailendra Singh when he was driving alone on the deserted bypass road at night. Singh had lodged a complaint in this regard stating that he had been looted at knifepoint and the accused then unidentified had decamped with his mobile, cash, ATM, debit and credit card, gold ring and chain. The accused did not stop at this as apparently they had a purpose behind stealing the car. They planned a kidnapping using the vehicle for this effect. They drove in the car to Gangwal bus stand in search of their victims where they offered lift to Satyanarayan Bangar and A Mangilal who are businessmen from Betma and had just alighted from a bus, were searching for a transport. The accused instead of taking them towards Betma, took them towards the Rau Bypass, where the loud protests by the victims were heard by a police patrol. On being chased by the police, the accused dumped their victims and headed off towards Shajapur where the Maksi police arrested them. The Maksi police had presented them in court and obtained remand for them from the local court. The Indore police had demanded their return and filed for official proceedings. With the remand of Maksi police ending today, they had obtained protection warrant for transit remand. A police team from Rajendra Nagar was to go to Maksi in this regard on Tuesday but the accused managed to break open the iron railings of their cell gate and make good their escape. Shajapur Superintendent Police Asha Mathur has ordered an enquiry into the incident registered an offence against the fugitives under Section 224 of the IPC and alerted police forces in the neighboring districts as also Indore, from where they originally come and two of the three accused belong. aditya.parmar@hindustantimes.com
