| | Suggestion to maintain blood sample test records at jail THE STATE Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has recommended that prisoners be medically examined to find out the state of their physical and mental health and their blood samples be examined when they are taken to jails. The SHRC recommended that records of blood sample test be maintained at jail and provision for their proper healthcare should be made. In keeping with the recommendations of the commission, Director General Jails issued directives to all jail superintendents. An inmate in Sidhi jail, Shobhnath, had died after he fell while going to a toilet in a state of illness. Taking suo motto cognisance of the matter, the Commission had initiated an inquiry into the case. Following inquiry, the Commission asked for payment of Rs 25,000 compensation to kin of the deceased, compulsory blood test of all jail inmates and provision of their proper healthcare when found ill during routine check-up. The State Government has accepted all the recommendations and payment of compensation has also been made to the family of Shobhnath. |
