Hell-raiser Harry, Wicked Wills

Just when Windsor-watchers were beginning to lose interest in the state of royal affairs, the two princes Harry and William have put a bit of life back into the proceedings. The boring William-Kate Middleton romance has receded into the background as the heir to the throne was pictured up close and personal with a female companion at a popular nightclub. Not to be left behind, wild child Harry livened up things by drunkenly falling into a gutter after a night on the tiles with a woman television presenter. Long-time girlfriend Chelsy Davy may be in a sulk but the princes have brought back a little pizzazz into the royal household.

For god’s sake, how long can we be content with the wrinkled romance of Charles and Camilla that was getting as wooden as the trees the prince natters to from time to time? As for the Queen and gaffe-prone Prince Philip, well, they are not likely to set the Thames on fire with their dry as sawdust antics. The Queen Mother had it in her, but alas she is swigging it back at the great gin bar in the sky. The public pretends to be scandalised at the princes and their capers, but secretly we are delighted.

We need to pore over the dalliances of royalty’s poster boys for bad behaviour to spice up our drab lives. It is gratifying that the princes have given up their attempts to tread the straight and narrow and carry on the colourful traditions of their ancestors. It is the sin thing, isn’t it?
