Rubaiya Bintenahar is coming back to the RG Kar Medical College Hospital on Monday to continue her MBBS course. Pressure from all quarters following the Hindustan Times' report finally worked.
Tamsher Ali, CPI-M MLA of Natabari in Cooch Behar will bring Rubaiya, a second year MBBS student to RG Kar. Rubaiya's father Noor Jabbar Ali Mian and maternal uncle Abdul Hamid will also come with her to Kolkata.
Tamsher Ali said, "We have already boarded into the train Uttar Banga Express at New Cooch Behar station on Sunday evening. We will reach the medical college by 10 am on Monday and meet the college professor Utpal Dutta there. We will request Dutta to look after Rubaiya as she could continue her medical study."
"We could not spoil the bright career of a brilliant girl like Rubaiya branding her a witch or mentally retarded person. I along with several sensible souls like teachers and social workers rushed to her Takagachh village residence on Saturday soon after coming back home from Kolkata. We convinced her parents saying that she is physically and mentally well to do the MBBS course."
"Initially her father did not allow to send her to Kolkata so early. They wanted her to stay back at the village for several other days. But I told them that I would take her to Kolkata at my own risk. I have also discussed the issue with our party's district secretariat office. Earlier on Friday when I was in the state legislative assembly the Cooch Behar District Magistrate Rajesh Sinha called me up and asked me to look into the issue," Ali said.
Rubaiya's mother said, "Rubaiya has left for Kolkata. Some people led by an MLA assured us that there would be no harm to Rubaiya once she resumed her study in Kolkata. Many people are coming to meet us and asking to send my daughter to Kolkata."
About 15 members of Sammilita Natya Mancha, a theatre organisation based at Cooch Behar went to Rubaiya's house at Takagachh on Sunday. They were also unanimous that she should be sent back to RG Kar.
Dutta said, "She is coming to the college on Monday morning. We will take care of her once she starts classes in the second year."
