| | A day after the daring Maoist attack in Sitamarhi district, the Bihar police on Sunday said it was the responsibility of the central intelligence agency and the Sima Surksha Bal (SSB) to provide them 'input' about the ultras sneaking into the state territory from Nepal. "The Naxalites who attacked the police station, Central Bank of India branch office and the block office sneaked into Sitamarhi district from across the porous Nepal border, about 15 km from Sitamarhi," district Superintendent of Police MR Nayak said. Had the central intelligence agency and the SSB made available to the state police the 'input' about the movement of the proscribed CPI (Maoist) Naxalites, on Saturday, the attack could have been averted, he said. The SP, however, praised the Bihar Military Police and Special Auxilliary Police (SAP) personnel deployed at the Riga police station for repulsing the attack "with force". Nayak said raids continued at different places in the district and efforts were on to identify the hideouts where the rebels might have taken shelter after their "unsuccessful operaton." He said police had achieved a major success by forcing such a large group of Naxalites, armed with sophisticated weapons, to retreat. A group of 500 armed Maoist rebels yesterday blew up a road bridge, attacked a police station and a block office and made an abortive attempt to loot a bank, injuring two persons, at Riga in Sitamarhi district. |
