Four kidnapped Hyderabad children rescued

Police on Sunday rescued four children, all boys, who had been kidnapped from different localities in the city in the last two months.

While 18-month-old Chandu Singh and two-year-old Yesu Babu were rescued near Mumbai, two others, two-year-old Atif and six-month-old Karthik, were found in Karimnagar and Medak districts in the state.

The children were rescued following the arrest of a 22-year-old woman Sujatha on Saturday at Borabanda neighbourhood in Hyderabad. The woman, who had kept the city police on tenterhooks for eight weeks, was caught by the people when she was trying to kidnap yet another child.

A police team took Sujatha to Mumbai where they recovered Chandu and Yesu, whom she had sold to childless couples in Bhiwandi for a huge price in collusion with kidnappers' gangs in Mumbai.

The police informed the children's parents that they were in good condition and were being brought back to Hyderabad.

All the four children are likely to be restored to their parents by Sunday night.

The breakthrough came after top officials headed by police commissioner Balwinder Singh interrogated the woman, who had kidnapped the boys after offering them chocolates.

Sujatha told the police she had links with kidnappers in Mumbai and sold the children to childless couples. She was kidnapping only boys, as the childless couples would offer huge money for male children.
