Puppet in the hands of totalitarian cadres

March 23, 2007

Vir Sanghvi’s The Bengal Paradox (Counterpoint, March 18) was a fine dissection of the CPI(M)’s power-base in West Bengal, just as he shows how Mamata Banerjee has turned out to be “her own worst enemy”.

MKD Prasada Rao, Ghaziabad

II

It is very sad that the communist cadres are murdering democracy so brazenly in rural Bengal. What is the use of land reforms, etc if the people live in an atmosphere of constant fear? The administration is a puppet in the hands of totalitarian communist cadres.

SK Sharma, Kapurthala

III

Bengal’s image at home and abroad has taken a beating after these killings and the tactics of General Dyer, Stalin and Mao Tse-Tung are looming large over the state.

Kuran C Ghosh, Delhi

Secular State

With reference to Sonia, Secularism & India’s Christians (Sunday Sentiments, March 18), it can not only be potentially dangerous but absolutely wrong to tell the Christians of Himachal Pradesh that they had been indulging in illegal conversion activities and the Himachal Pradesh Freedom of Religion Act, 2007 targets them by branding them with guilt.

Anup Chitkara, Shimla

Where wolf?

Is indira Jaising trying to protect women’s rights, or is she just hell-bent on proving that women are always right (Guest Column, Of crying hoarse, not wolf, March 18)?

Pathikrit Sen Gupta, Delhi
