Jogi's bail plea hearing tomorrow

The hearing on the bail application of former chief minister and Lok Sabha member, Ajit Jogi ,will be held on Tuesday in the Sessions Court of Special Judge (Atrocities) BL Tirkey. Earlier today, the Judicial Magistrate First Class Praveen Pradhan, rejected the bail petition citing it as beyond his jurisdiction.

Jogi's counsel SK Farhan told Hindustan Times that the argument and order in the given case would be heard on Tuesday after the opposition party's advocate, JP Pandey, requested the court for time to prepare his reply.

Jogi was arrested on Sunday night, while campaigning for the Lok Sabha by-election at Gandai in Rajnandgaon district, on a non-bailable arrest warrant issued by a Raipur court in connection with the murder of then state NCP treasurer Ram Avtar Jaggi in 2003. After his arrest he was brought to the state capital at around 4 am on Monday and admitted in the Escort Heart Centre after he complained of chest pain and breathlessness.

Dr Sandeep Shrivastava told HT that Jogi is under sedatives due to high blood pressure and other complaints. "Since he had a heart attack earlier he is under close observation in the ICU," said the doctor.

It may be recalled that Satish Jaggi, son of deceased Ramavatar Jaggi, on March 3 moved an application in the court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate in Raipur, seeking the arrest of Ajit Jogi in connection with the murder case. The court, after hearing the argument of the applicant, issued a warrant against the former chief minister.

Following the Supreme Court verdict to change the sitting judge for the final hearing of Jaggi murder case, a Special Judge BL Tirkey replaced Sanmaan Singh. Satish Jaggi filed a plea in the apex court mentioning that the earlier Judge Sanmaan Singh, happens to be the brother of Congress MLA, Gulab Singh, a supporter of Ajit Jogi. Since Amit Jogi was one of the prime accused in the murder case the applicant had urged the Supreme Court that the hearing might be affected.

It may be recalled that NCP Treasurer Ramavtar Jaggi, was shot dead at around midnight in Raipur when he was returning home on June 3, 2003. Satish Jaggi then filed a report to the police that Ajit Jogi and his son Amit were "behind the murder". The Jogis denied the charge leveled against them calling it a ploy of dirty politics.
