Close the 'letter' chapter: Lakshmanan

A day after breaking down in the Supreme Court on the issue of an anonymous letter with "heinous allegations" against him, Justice AR Lakshmanan on Saturday said the chapter should now be closed.

Dozens of journalists and photographers surrounded Justice Lakshmanan at Vigyan Bhawan on the sidelines of a seminar on 'Delay in Administration of Criminal Justice' and repeatedly asked him about the contents of the letter and if he wanted any probe into the whole episode.

Justice Lakshmanan, who had on Friday refused to hear the review petition of Mulayam Singh Yadav's son Akhilesh against the order for a CBI probe into the alleged disproportionate assets of his family, declined to make any further comments on the issue saying the "chapter is closed".

"Don't ask me that question. Forget it. The chapter is closed....Once and for all. I don't want to say anything," the Judge said on the sidelines of the seminar when journalists asked about the letter.

Justice Lakshmanan had dropped a bombshell by revealing that he had received a letter in which heinous allegations were leveled against him and that he would recuse himself from the case.

Law Minister HR Bhardwaj and Chief Justice of India KG Balakrishnan simply refused to comment on the issue.
