| | With regard to Vir Sanghvi’s A Fair Election In UP (Counterpoint, February 25), every conscientious citizen will agree with him that with Mulayam style in vogue, a free and fair election in UP is a pipedream. Why not ensure it by imposing President’s Rule? Political parties should rise above their narrow political interests and think of the nation as a whole. By the way, what makes Amitabh Bachchan appear in an ad eulogising UP despite its dismal law and order situation? The smaller parties — the champions of a particular caste, creed, or a sub-region — raise region-centric issues and thrive at the expense of national interest. The only solution to this menace lies in preferring only the national parties, either the BJP or the Congress, and voting for them. Naval Langa, Ahmedabad Public service to Delhi? Having been a bureaucrat, member of Parliament and minister, Jagmohan has co-existed and I am sorry to point out, co-habited with his ‘four distinct group of racketeers and law breakers’. Clearly he has taken on neither in such a long career of ‘public-service’.
