| | In a one-sided match, Sher-e-Jalandhar thrashed a hapless Chennai Veerans 6-0 in the Premier Hockey League in Chandigarh on Friday. Ace striker Gagan Ajit Singh, the leading goalscorer in the tournament, found the target three times taking his side's tally to 20 points. The Shers now have only tabletoppers Orissa Steelers ahead of them. The yawning gaps in the Veerans' defence, who are placed down the table with 13 points, were fully exploited by the opposition. Gagan Ajit first struck early in the second quarter, finishing off a nice attacking move with the ball getting deflected in off a Veeran defender. Gagan was again involved on the mark in the seventh minute of the second half scoring with a reverse flick from an acute angle. Further damage was inflicted on the Veerans by Tejbir Singh, who also scored two goals. In a well thought out move, 24-year-old Santi Freixa break into the Veerans defence providing the pass for Tejbir to score in the 13th minute of the second half. |
