Software tools for seven Indian languages, available to users free of cost, were released by Communications and IT Minister Dayanidhi Maran on Wednesday in New Delhi.

The seven languages are Assamese, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Oriya, Punjabi and Urdu. Tools and fonts for Hindi, Tamil and Telugu are already available free of charge.

"Out of the 22 official Indian languages, 10 language CDs will now be available and that too free of cost. We are now working to come out with CDs for Gujarati and Bengali languages," Maran said.

The CDs have been developed by the Department of IT (DIT) and Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) in collaboration with other public and private agencies.

These language tools and fonts are also available on websites www.ildc.in and www.ildc.gov.in for free download.
