I am God’s favourite child, says Sushmita Sen

Sushmita Sen's last film Zindaggi Rocks, which failed to create magic at the box-office, saw her play Kria, a girl who lives life on her own terms. Something which she has been doing in her 'real' life as well.

From being an actress to a  single mother and now an entrepreneur, the lady surely has all it needs to be at the top. In an exclusive interview, she speaks about her new business plans and her forthcoming films:

On her business plans:

Work has already begun and it should be ready by early next year. You know, I have lived in Delhi and Mumbai, but the first place where I will be starting my business venture will be Kolkata, so it’s like a cycle coming to completion. It’s a beautiful 12,000 sq. ft property on the 10th floor of a building overlooking the Victoria memorial. It’s dream like (khub shundor jaayegata). It will have night club, lounge bar, restaurant, cigar bar and winery where, you will have the the best selection of wines.

On the name:
Everything that we have there is a bundle of contradictions — The night club, which is the noisiest corner is called Ssshh, the restaurant will be called Poison and the lounge where you would surrender to the moment is 8, which when lies down becomes infinity. We are going deep into everything.

On picking Kolkata:
Kolkata is a metropolitan city wherein lots the privatized entertainment form is still not growing as much as it is in Mumbai or Delhi. In fact, Chennai is another place which like Kolkata doesn’t have developed entertaining. And secondly, I belong to Kolkata, so it’s like connecting with people on a home level. My idea is to bring it is a pioneering effort rather than being one of the thousands.

On the ambience:
It’s a place worth enjoying for a couple of hours or more. It’s like going to a world where people are not judged. There is no qualm, no discrimination and no bias. On the creative front it is almost a representation of myself. My partner Rajat Dalmiya is the brain and on the creative front, the executor. In fact, Kolkata will get to see a lot of me in the future. I am catering to human beings.

On the target audience:
When create a brand, we have a target audience, otherwise you will get lost. For this venue, the idea is to target special audience. People don’t have to come there everyday, it should be a place where you want to go, make a moment out of it, and it’s about aspirations I like  that. Costing shouldn’t be a problem.

On Zindaggi Rocks:
The film was not meant to be a blockbuster. It is not a blockbuster. Yes, it has been defined as Sushmita Sen’s story. It is what life’s about. Zindaggi Rocks doesn’t mean that we go on rocking. No matter how it defines your graph high or low, you make it rock. Yes, as long as I remember I have made that choice.

On her strong characters on screen:
Yes, I have done a lot of strong characters. But it is not to underline strength. I would relate to every character, when a film is shot properly, and has a graph, and to capture that graph, there is strength. I have given my life to each one of them be it in Samay  or Chingaari or Zindaggi Rocks.

Samay and Chingaari  were tough. Chingaari  was indeed tough because of the different body language that I had to show as a sex worker. I have been trained by the sheer destined fact that I went on to become the Miss Universe. So, I came back to the world as somebody very proper. And to do a film like Chingaari  after so many years meant breaking down a lot of barriers — to scream, shout, yell and to show vulnerability it was tough.

On the journey without any Godfather:
I am God’s favourite child, so I don’t need anything else, I am so loved by him. When your Godfather is God himself what else do you need?

On the film with Richard Gere:
We shot in November in Argentina. Then the film got delayed due to date problems, we suspended it. So, I want all speculations to end. When it will be shot, I will reannounce it.
