| | In a bid to make literary figures familiar to the modern generation being brought up with an overdose of computers and internet, a leading public school in Delhi will stage performances based on the life of celebrated poet Mirza Ghalib and the epic Ramayana. The hour-long play on Ghalib, probably the capital's favourite poet, would be staged by the Delhi Public School R K Puram for three days from April 11 to 13 at the Siri Fort Auditorium, Principal of the school, Shyama Chona said. "Mirza Ghalib was a partly historical figure who loved dearly and was loved dearly. And I wanted a personality from Delhi who children could learn from, so Ghalib was the perfct choice," Chona said. "The tragic play shows that you can be creative but sometimes your creativity may not carry you through," she said. "The play will be staged in three parts -- the childhood of the bard, the hardships faced by him and an entertainment part based on dance forms," said R G Verma, Director of the play. It will have two shows a day, one for slum kids and the other for the general public. In a similar vein, a dance-drama based on the epic 'Ramayana' would be staged in the Talkatora indoor stadium from April 17-20. The dance-drama has been directed by theatre personality Meenal and the script written by Asha Lata Pandey, head of the Sanskrit department of the school. |
